Sample Wedding Gift Registry
See what gifts are commonly added to a wedding gift registry. Also the range in pricing and quantity for each gift on the list.
Common gifts included on a wedding gift registry include items for the kitchen, bathroom, manchester and linen for the bedroom and table.
You have put together your guest list and should have an idea of the types of gifts and price of gifts people are expecting to pay (of course you will be surprised by the generousity of guests, so don't put down too many budget items!) Guests like a range of gift pricing, to allow them to be generous if they like on their own, or to put together with other guests to give a large gift they believe you will love and not buy for yourselves. Lower priced items allow guests to buy something extra with their left over money, or to give a smaller gift if they are coming from interstate, or overseas as their real wedding gift.
You as a couple will need to decide on colour and style of certain gifts to allow people to give a complete collection of items, including bedding, dinner sets, glasses, room decorations etc.
People traditionally like to give gifts that will last over a couple's lifetime (ideally happily everafter and not happily till divorce).
Gifts typically included on a Wedding Gift Registry:
- Dinner Set. Two can be added, one for special occasions and one for everyday use. Typically 6 place settings are put on the registry, however for those with larger families, or friendship groups, add as many place settings as you would like, people can choose how many they purchase and this can be a gift added to over the years through Christmases, birthdays, anniversaries, and surprises.
- Bedding. A complete sheets and cover set.
- Kitchen Appliances including a mixer, food processor, blender, pasta machine, mincer, juicer. Now that colour is such a fun option in the kitchen be sure to specify your favourite colour, be it blue, black, red, yellow or lime green.
- Glasses. Both everyday and special occasion glassware is a great gift. Crystal is nice, but if you're not a crystal glass using couple, don't put it on the list. There is no point lugging around crystal glasses for years, putting them in the back of your cupboard because you thought it was what you were supposed to put on your list. Put what you love and what you will use.
- Fun gifts. There is no rule that says gifts have to be for the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. Fun gifts can cover anything you love doing as a couple. Just remember to put down quantity of two on sporting equipment that you'll play together. Gifts that can be put down include tennis racquets, squash racquets, fishing rods (only if you both enjoy it), bocce. Board games are another fun gift that will last many years and provide you with entertainment together and with friends. Scrabble, Monopoly, Pictionary, Boggle, Trivial Pursuit, Cranium, Chess and many more games. If there is a special edition, or a collector's edition it might be a good idea to include this one. DVDs and CDs. Music and movies are commonly being placed on to wedding gift registries. They are sold at Myer and David Jones (common wedding gift registry destinations) and people enjoy giving them as gifts. Choose music and movies that you will be watching and listening to in a few years time, not just the top 20 hits of the year.
- Blanket. This a nice gift that can be used over the years. Choose a good quality one that will last across different colour schemes to ensure it can stay as part of your lounge setting over the years.
- Towels. A popular gift to appear on all wedding gift registries. Most people do not replace their towels as regularly as they should and a wedding is a perfect time to freshen your linen cupboard and start your wedded life with soft, fluffy towels in the colour scheme you like, not just years of missmatched leftovers.
- Books. Cook books, travel books, dictionary and thesaurus, gardening books are all excellent items to include on your gift registry.
