November 1 - All Saints Day - Feast day celebrated by Roman Catholics and Anglicans. The day when all souls walked the earth.
November 2 - All Souls Day - Honours the memory of the dearly departed.
Trick or Treat
Depending on where you live you might get a few children coming around trick or treating in your neighbourhood. If you want to make sure you don't suffer a "trick" it is wise to have a few sweets at the ready. With today's concerns over nuts, additives and sugar for children pick lollies that are sugar-free, nut-free and low in additives. Or give the option of museli bars, or juice boxes. You can choose to make biscuits, but be aware of the many allergies children may suffer from.
Check any of the supermarket catalogues out towards the end of October and you'll see a double spread page of Halloween themed lollies, with jellied eyeballs, jelly snakes, lolly teeth etc.
Halloween Costumes
Dress up your children to go for a fun bit of trick or treating in your neighbourhood.

- A Mr Men character . Easy to DIY a Mr Strong costume for your child with a cardboard box and some red paint . It might be a bit more adventurous to make the Mr Jelly shape out of a cardboard box, but it can be done. Or maybe dress your child in blue and wrap bandages around them as Mr Bump.
- Popular superheroes for your child to dress up as. Spotlight's Sparties has several child's dress up costumes to find your child's favourite dress up. Including Spiderman, Batman, Superman (,
- Fairy costume, Pirate costume, Harry Potter dress ups.
- Left it till the last minute to organise a costume ? Grab a white sheet and cut some eye holes out. Colour around the eye holes with black texta. Voila, you have a Casper the ghost costume. Or grab some red, blue and yellow fabric. Fashion a cape out of the red fabric, a triangle out of the blue fabric and an S out of the yellow. Stitch all together and voila, a Superman cape .
- Glance over your child's favourite books for costume ideas. maybe Harry Potter, or Max from Where the Wild Things Are with a white jumpsuit and a golden crown.
Halloween Parties
- Decorate the house with skeletons, jack-o-lanterns, fake spiders, mirrors, candles, Dracula teeth, toy bats and more.
- Put out some fun Halloween themed lollies.
- Decorate cakes with spiderwebs etc.
- Play Halloween games like bobbing for apples.
- Have masks on hand for those that do not dress up.
